MAINTENANCE work will start on ponds in Kingsmead this winter.
Kingsmead Parish Council will be thinning trees at the Duke’s Way duck feeding pond and the ponds in Moor Park Way to tidy them up and allow more light to penetrate.
Clr Tim Moore gave fellow councillors a report on the Duke’s Way pond at their latest meeting.
He said: “If we do nothing the pond will turn into woodland, it will dry up.
“It pretty far gone at one end and if we do nothing it will be lost, which I think would be a shame because it’s quite attractive.”
Branches of trees will be thinned by a third to encourage aquatic life to return.
In Moor Park Way trees will be thinned and a crown lift will be carried out on a tree at a dried up pond.
