This government seems intent on creating mass homelessness amongst the poor. The effects of the ‘Bedroom Tax’ can be felt in Northwich already.
Two people have gone on my street, no doubt the tip of the iceberg for our town.
To make matters worse some social landlords will not accept Universal Credit housing payments in arrears and now the Cheshire West council are placing major restrictions on housing provision.
The Unemployed will not be able to get a home via social housing and with the planned cuts to the housing benefit announced by George Osborne recently, the unemployed will soon also be unable to afford privately rented accommodation.
Just where are the poor meant to live? Will we see tent cities like in the USA? Will people just doss in doorways? Will they resort to crime to find the money for a room?
And what will these ill-conceived plans mean for those with children? Are there indeed enough care home places and foster parents to home all the homeless youngsters this government will create?
If only people, especially Tories, could realise that it is not all that easy for people to get gainful employment these days.
If only the malicious rhetoric against the poor would end. If only the government would help people into work instead of scapegoat them.
This country is facing a massive crisis. Wake up and use your vote wisely, because ANYONE can lose his or her jobs. Even you George Osborne.
