A YOUNG businessman from Northwich has devised a solution that is helping untidy engineers across the country.

Jonathan Shone, 22, builds bespoke tool trays that help workmen keep their kit in order.

It’s an investment that could help save them from disasters costing thousands of pounds.

Jonathan said: “It’s in my nature to have everything in my toolkit neat and tidy.

“That’s what led me to this idea.

“A lot of people build up their toolkit over a lifetime and have different tools for different jobs. We collect the tools and create a unique space in the tray for each of them.”

Jonathan’s toolbox drawer liners could help engineers avoid potential disasters because every item has its own space. That reduces the risk of leaving a tool in an engine after a job is done because the workmen will notice it is missing.

So far private engineers have invested in his product as has the Superone British Karting Championship, which includes Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton among its lists of champions.

He is in further talks with a leading car manufacturer.

Shadow Foam is also sponsoring the Kat 7 racing team, a top 15 team in the Dunlop Mini Challenge Series.

Jonathan’s website – shadowfoam.com – is attracting business from across the country, but he is hoping to work more with Northwich firms and individuals.

“I like to work with other local businesses and it is obviously a lot easier for me than it is travelling up to Scotland,” he said.

Jonathan grew up in Weaverham and went to Weaverham High School before completing an engineering apprenticeship course.

Despite being less than six months old his business, run from his home in Marine Approach, has received support from Start-Up Loans, which counts former Dragon’s Den star James Caan as its chairman.

Jonathan believes young people should not be afraid to chase their goals if they have a sound business idea – despite ongoing concerns about the economy.

“If you set your mind to something and work hard it can be a success and there are a lot of opportunities out there if you look for them,” he said.
