VICS rebel Cortez Belle has found a new club.
The towering stopper is set to sign for Step Three outfit Chippenham Town after spending the summer there.
“We’ve agreed a fee,” Dino Maamria told the Guardian today, Friday.
“It’s undisclosed so I can’t tell you how much it’s worth but I will say it’s a good deal for the football club if everything goes through.”
The 24-year-old played a starring role in Vics’ successful survival bid at the end of last term but, after failing to agree a new deal in the summer, did not report back for pre-season training at the beginning of July.
Unhappy Vics still held his registration and this week told Belle’s Wiltshire admirers that they would have to pay compensation for acquiring their player’s services.
Chippenham now need to agree personal terms.
“Hopefully we can get Cortez on board but we have got a wage structure and we will not break the bank for a player,” Bluebirds boss Adie Mings told the Gazette and Herald.
“We try and keep everyone on the same money so there are no big earners. Everyone is relatively on the same based on their experience.”
He said five Blue Square South sides were also in the race to win Belle’s signature.
Mings is wary of the wages Belle – who has played in non-league’s top tier for Halifax Town and Vics as well as in the Welsh Premier League for Merthyr Tydfil and Llanelli – could expct.
He said: “It could be a problem, but hopefully it will not be.
“We have had a couple of long conversations and hopefully everything will be sorted out.”
Belle has sat out the two friendlies during the past seven days while both clubs tried to find common ground.
Chippenham play in the British Gas Business Premier League – a feeder division for Blue Square South.
Meanwhile former Vics full back Michael Bowler has joined Blue Square Premier rivals Kidderminster Harriers on a one-year deal following a successful trial this summer.
