TOM Peers, a teenage striker from Skrill Premier new boys Chester, has joined Witton Albion on an initial month-long loan.
The young forward impressed during the second half of the Northwich club’s 3-2 friendly success against higher-ranked Barrow on Tuesday, agreeing to a temporary move after training last night, Thursday.
“We’re happy to have him,” said Albion boss Brian Pritchard.
“[Chester manager] Neil Young got in touch with us and asked if we’d be interested in taking a look at Tom and perhaps helping him with the next stage of his development.
“We certainly like what we’ve seen so far; his attitude is excellent, and I think he can add to our threat in the attacking third of the pitch.”
Peers featured as a substitute during Chester’s 3-0 defeat of Witton in the Cheshire FA Senior Cup semi finals last season, making his first start for Albion’s county neighbours in the Football Conference’s northern section at Worcester the following month.
He has been a regular goal-scorer in Chester’s Youth team, including in a friendly on tour in Scotland – against Airdrie – as recently as last weekend.
Pritchard has confirmed to the Guardian that he has agreed terms too for another season with versatile defender Josh Glover.
The 20-year-old, capped by England at under 18s level, will make his 50th appearance for the club if selected for the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League campaign curtain-raiser at Buxton on Saturday week.
His signature adds to those of wide men Matthew Purcell, who joins from Curzon Ashton, and former Eagle Sports man Jon Dawson after the duo penned non-contract forms in the past few days.
Witton complete their on-pitch preparation for the new season tomorrow, Saturday, in a friendly at Huws Gray Alliance League outfit Conwy. Kick off is 2pm.
