1874 NORTHWICH have rewarded Paul Bowyer and Wayne Goodison for their work since Ian Street’s departure last month by appointing the duo as joint managers.

The club announced their decision last night, Monday, following a 4-1 victory against landlords Winsford United.

“They’ve set about their task with great enthusiasm and commitment,” read a brief statement.

1874 has won three of their seven matches, and drawn two others, in the North West Counties League’s top-flight while Bowyer and Goodison have picked the team.

They have scored 14 goals in the same period.

With three games left, starting with a short trip to neighbours Barnton tomorrow, 1874 are near-certain to finish in fifth position.

They also have an opportunity to claim a piece of silverware when they take on Northwich Victoria in the Mid-Cheshire District FA Senior Cup final next week.

“We’ve had a number of discussions with Paul and Wayne during which they’ve highlighted their ideas for the future, and we wish them well with their plans to move us forward,” added the club’s statement.

Goodison has already addressed fans directly in 1874’s weekly newsletter, which is sent to members every Friday.

He said: “It's safe to say we have underachieved this season, and we have to rectify that next term.

“While there is disappointment at how we’ve fallen away since February, the club is in a good position to move up a level.

“I’ve told the players we’ll be expecting more from them, but that they should also demand the same from us – we have to raise standards both on and off the pitch.”
