A LEFTWICH mum is warning dog owners to be aware of animals that are not kept on a lead, after her pet was mauled to death.
Debbie Holland, of Old Hall Road, witnessed her beloved seven-month-old Miniature Schnauzer, Alfie, being fatally wounded by a Alsatian - Doberman cross breed that was not on a lead.
The 36-year-old took her dog to the front garden of her house on Saturday evening, at about 8.20pm, on a lead.
“I turned around to walk up my drive and this dog just came from nowhere and just jumped on top of Alfie,” she said.
“It just all happened so quickly.
“I tried to intervene and I was bitten - I had puncture marks on the top of my hand.
“The dog ‘ragged’ Alfie’s back end - it was like a blood bath.”
Alfie died on the same evening.
“I am still traumatised,” Debbie added.
Debbie said that she now wants to make other residents aware of the dangers of dogs which are not kept on leads.
“We need people to know not to let their children take their dogs out on Leftwich green - there are a lot of dogs not on leads there.”
Debbie’s mum, Denise Holland, 55, added: “When I walk my little dog on the estate, I don’t feel safe.”
