TWO lanes of the M6 northbound were closed as teams work to resurface the carriageway yesterday, Wednesday.
The damage was caused by a heavy goods vehicle which caught fire at junction 18 for Middlewich.
At its height, four fire engines from Holmes Chapel, Middlewich, Lymm and Sandbach fire stations attended to deal with the incident.
Crews were called to the motorway shortly before 1pm and found the tractor unit of the HGV to be well alight on arrival.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets and three dry powder extinguishers to put out the flames.
The battery of the tractor unit was isolated while crews cooled the HGV down.
A full closure was put in place, but two of the four lanes later reopened, with Highways England stating that lanes one and two would remain closed while resurfacing work takes place.
All lanes have now reopened.
