MOTORISTS faced long delays this morning due to a car fire on a busy road in Northwich.
Firefighters were called to the incident in School Road South, Rudheath, just after 8am today.
One fire engine from Northwich attended the scene.
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “A car was on fire on School Road South in Rudheath.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus put out the fire and asked police to attend as the A556 was heavily congested.”
Nareice Wint was one of the motorists affected.
She told the Guardian: “Passing through going to work, and a car was on fire just outside Roberts Bakery. It was spitting and popping.
“Looked like no one was with it. People from Roberts Bakery were milling around trying to guide cars out the way. Everyone was shocked.
“Worse thing was, there’s a tunnel and coming through it, smoke was everywhere in it. People were trying to get across to the other side of the road in case it went it. Scary.”
