FOLLOWING the announcement by a local bus company to stop running the 45 bus service between Northwich and Warrington, discussions with Cheshire West and Chester Council have provided a solution.
The withdrawal of the service sparked concern among residents of villages in the Northwich area.
The service, which was operated commercially, would have left the villages of Lostock Gralam and Wincham without a service to Warrington. Higher Marston and Great Budworth would have no buses at all.
A Cheshire West spokesman said Network Warrington Bus Company, which currently operates commercial services via Barnton, had agreed to divert some journeys through these villages after discussions with the council.
“While not as frequent as the previous GHA Coaches service, Network Warrington will provide five journeys a day in each direction on the route,” said the spokesman.
Councillor Brian Clarke, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Infrastructure said: “Not everyone has access to a car, and public transport is a lifeline for many residents in rural areas who need to get to work, shops, medical appointments, school and college.
“I am delighted that Network Warrington has agreed to provide a service on this route.”
David Blainey, operations director for Network Warrington Bus Company added: “Our buses have been operating services between Warrington and Northwich for a long time, and we look forward to continuing to serve people living in this area of mid Cheshire again.”
