PRIMARY school pupils have raised more than £2,000 for plans for a new skatepark for Barnton.
Barnton Parish Council is looking to replace the village’s ageing skatepark, which is popular with teenagers from Barnton and Northwich.
Barnton Community Nursery and Primary School raised the money by taking part in a sponsored run to kick start its Run2Rio campaign.
Year six peer mentors, with the support of teaching assistant Lyne Wade, wanted to raise money for the Barnton skatepark.
Their initial idea of a fun run coincided with the Run2Rio scheme, where primary schools across Cheshire and Warrington walk and run a designated route and distance to clock up the kilometres to cover the 9,320 kilometres from Cheshire to Rio de Janeiro.
The whole school took part and, with the support of parents and carers, covered 947.7 kilometres in an hour-long session.
From this they raised £2,060, and presented a cheque to Barnton teenager Tom Rowley, who has been raising money towards the replacement skatepark.
The cheque has taken Tom’s fundraising for the scheme to almost £7,200.
“A massive thank you to the school for the amazing donation, and many thanks to all the staff, pupils, parents and everyone who sponsored the fun run,” said Tom.
