A FLOWER girl won an award named in memory of the grandma she never met when she took part in a village fun run.

Six-year-old Evie Grensinger, a flower girl in Comberbach Rose Fete's rose queen retinue, took part in the 1km children's fun run before the event and scooped the Marion Taylor Award for the most money raised.

The Comberbach youngster, who attends St Wilfrid's Catholic Primary School, in Hartford, raised £511 for the Newborn Appeal, which was more than half of the total raised.

Evie's proud mum Fiona said: "Marion lived in the village for most of her life and was very actively involved in village life, she also ran 1st Comberbach Brownies for many years and the village created this award in her memory as she passed away from breast cancer in 2003.

"What makes this particularly special is that Marion was my mum and Evie’s grandma, she never got to meet her grandma and winning this award is just fantastic."
