CLASSIC literature, poetry and radio drama are the subjects of the first week of Northwich’s month-long LitFest.

The event runs in venues throughout the town during June, kicking off with a return visit of Elizabeth Williams talking about Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte on Monday, June 2.

The talk takes place at Cafe Terrazzo, in High Street, and tickets, which are free, are already proving popular.

An entertaining evening of poetry and music is planned at the same venue for Wednesday, June 4, with north west poet Angela Topping and her guests reading their works.

Her guest list includes Tonia Bevins, David Costello, Jan Dean and Edwin Stockdale, with music courtesy of John and Ailsa Booth and the chance for open floor readers during the course of the evening.

Tickets are free.

The first week concludes with a behind the scenes look at writing The Archers, the world’s longest-running radio soap opera, with writers Carole Solazzo and Nawal Gadalla who have written almost 900 episodes between them.

This talk takes place at Davenham Players Theatre, in Church Street, and features a head-to-head Archers trivia quiz, questions for the writers, gossip and surprises.

Tickets for this event are £5.

Highlights in future weeks include Julia Baird, the sister of John Lennon, talking about their early life, and The Archers’ Sunny Ormonde returning to perform in Larkin' About.
